Contact your Congressional Representative TODAY to Protect your Credit Union Debit Card Service

Currently there is important legislation pending in Congress that may adversely affect your credit union debit card and we need your help to stop it.

What's at issue: Retailers are currently asking Congress to shift their cost of doing business to you by reducing their fair share of the card payment system. If the retailers are successful and this legislation passes, you could soon be paying a surcharge for using your debit card to make purchases.

Please take action TODAY to protect your credit union debit card by contacting your state representatives and urging them to oppose inclusion of the Senate-passed Interchange Amendment in the Financial Regulatory Reform Bill.

A prewritten letter is available for your use at the Credit Union Grassroots Action Center where you can personalize and send an email or print and fax a letter to your legislators based on the ZIP code that you enter. Or you can call 1-877-223-5275 and input your ZIP code to be directed to your Congressional Representative.

Thank you for your continued support of Team One Credit Union and for taking action to protect your credit union services.

With all the news about the new credit card rate legislation coming from Washington, we thought it was a good time to remind you that Team One has never mistreated our Members like many of the banks and credit card issuers have. Many unsuspecting consumers have been victimized by unfair rate hikes, fees, penalty charges and misleading fine print of these institutions.

Rest assured that our goal is to continue to provide credit cards that our members can use responsibly and continue to afford. We will always keep you informed of any changes to your credit card and never charge excessive penalties or fees.

In conjunction with National Volunteer Week, The United Way of Saginaw County recognized Team One's commitment to the community at its 2009 LIVE UNITED Community Awards Breakfast on April 23 at Horizons Conference Center in Saginaw Township.

Team One Credit Union’s Community Impact Team was awarded the Thomas J. Hetherman Award for community service by the United Way. The award is a tribute to the late Thomas J. Hetherman, a United Way president and chief executive officer.

Corporate Credit Unions

By Konnie M. Werner, President/CEO

You may have heard in the news that two credit unions (U.S. Central Federal Credit Union, Kansas and WesCorp Federal Credit Union, California) were taken over by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) on Friday, March 20. This was a result of accounting losses related to mortgage-backed securities investments. It is important to note these “corporate” credit unions in Kansas and California do not serve individual consumers.

We want to reassure you that these events do not impact the safety and soundness of Team One Credit Union. Our service to you is not affected by these government actions.

As a reminder, your funds are insured up to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund. No credit union member has ever lost a penny of federally insured funds.

For further reading, please be sure to take a moment to read this article from CNN Money, Credit union members: Don't panic.

We will continue to offer the most competitive rates and quality service so that our members can feel secure bringing their financial needs to us.
